Milford Sound or Piopiotahi in Māori is a fjord (not actually a sound), located in the south west of New Zealand’s South Island. It is located within the Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site.
Having driven from Te Anau we were greeted by this sight on exiting the car part at Milford Sound Tourist Centre. A tricky shot to take as the sun was quite low and lens flare was creeping in – but I had no lens hood when traveling. The reflections in the waters is something I like.
Milford Sound was judged as one of the world’s top travel destination in an international survey (the 2008 Travelers’ Choice Destinations Awards by TripAdvisor) and is acclaimed as New Zealand’s most famous tourist destination.
